Looking for ways to prevent “summer slide”?

Summer slide is considered the regression of skills in children when out of school for a long period of time, such as summer break. Providing your child with the tools they need to keep learning, even over the summer, will help boost their confidence and ease their anxiety when returning to school.

Have you ever wondered why your child’s test scores seem a little lower at the beginning of the school year than when they left in June?

With summer in full swing, it’s easy for them to forget some of the things they had already learned; this is called the “summer slide”.

By mid summer, our students are more worried about who they’re going to hang out with later than picking up a book to read.

Or maybe they haven’t been on a schedule for a few weeks and the chances of them willingly working on some math problems is absolutely zero.

Students with disabilities are no exception and we need to work together to prevent the summer slide.

It’s important we keep our kids on a schedule, even in the summer, to help them keep their skills sharp and ease them into the school routine when August rolls around. We’ve done some research and found some fantastic resources for parents to utilize this summer to help prevent summer slide:
